I am always looking for interesting decor for Courtland, and in a quaint home furnishing store in my home town I saw a small brown dog metal wall hanging from the Dogs Rock line by Demdaco. I liked it a lot, and it reminded me of the logo for my side editing business Brown Dog Editing, but at upwards of $50 it was way too expensive for my taste for the size and quality.
I started searching the web for other metal dog wall hangings and came across this store on Etsy, Functional Sculpture, that makes metal dogs much larger for about the same price. I asked Chris, the artist, if he could make me a cutout of my logo, and he complied for $65! I could not be more excited about this dog! I decided I would hang it on the outside of my house by my front door.
In the meantime while I was waiting for that to be made, I decided I needed a new mailbox. See the one that came with the house is old and black and boring. I have been coveting a copper one for awhile, but they are so expensive at around $100. No way am I spending $100 on a mailbox! I could buy a lot for my house for $100!
One day at the hardware store I had the brilliant idea to spray paint it. I found this really cool spray paint by Rust-oleum that has a “hammered” look to it. The can cost me about $8, which is way better than $100! I painted the mailbox and I think it turned out pretty well. Next to my dog it looks really good! I am proud of my personalized art and money saving mailbox idea.
